Elderly pedestrian Virendra Prasad dies in a fatal January pedestrian collision

The Calgary Police Service can confirm that Virendra Prasad, 72, has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a collision on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014. Prasad passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

At approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, a 2007 Chevrolet panel van was travelling on 44 Street S.E. when the driver made an eastbound turn onto 17 Avenue.

A 72 year-old man believed to have been crossing 17 Avenue at a marked crosswalk, was struck by the van.

The pedestrian was transported to Foothills Hospital in stable condition. Since then the condition of the pedestrian has deteriorated.

The driver of the van was not injured.

The Calgary Police Service continues to investigate.
