The Conservative government’s revamping of the temporary foreign worker program has become a hurdle for its much prioritized and preplanned ambitious trade deals that promise more foreign workers to enter Canada hassle-free. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has made it his personal priority to pursue as many trade negotiations as possible. He aims that Canada must expand foreign markets for Canadian goods and services in an effort to reduce an overwhelming economic dependence on the United States.

According to a text from the highly-flaunted Canada-European Union free trade agreement (CETA), a list of occupations are to be included to be fast-tracked into Canada and hence allow European firms to bring European workers into Canada through inter-company transfers, with reciprocity for Canadian firms. According to the Conservative government, the deal’s provisions for temporary entry of labour are “the most ambitious ever in a free trade agreement.”

In addition to that, Canada’s long-promised free-trade deal with India is also at stake here. Sources claim that temporary foreign workers are one of the key reasons that the deal has not been finalized even though the Conservative government promised to complete the deal in 2013. However, that deal has also particularly been delayed due to India’s lengthy election cycle. It is yet to be determined whether the resounding victory by Narendra Modi, who is a renowned pro-business Hindu nationalist heading the Bharatiya Janata Party, will help Canada overcome the impasse.

  1. Harper is a globally recognized as a dangerously corrupt political leader and is universally condemned by all nations belonging to the civilized global community. Harper uses extortion, threats and bribes to peddle his dirtiest oil on earth tar sands.. which has devastated once pristine Alberta ecosystems and wilderness and their native inhabitants.. along with many other of his cronies’ projects which harm environments worldwcomment_IDe. He has sabotaged climate talks, he blocks laws for animal cruelty and endangered species protection, he promotes horrific wildlife massacre bloodbaths, such as the harp seal pup bloodbaths (ignoring the entire world which has banned and boycotted Canada for that atrocity) and many other less publicized ones like elk massacres and endangered polar bear trophy hunts. he indulges in massive land and air pollution across Canada and clearcutting of old growth. Along with his crushing of laws upholding human rights, and his arms peddlng and warmongering, Harper has shown he’s simply a threat to the public and must be removed from public office.
