Mother of the newborn who was abducted from hospital almost 16 hours after birth, Mélissa McMahon, claims to have realized something was wrong less than a minute after someone dressed as a nurse took her baby, Victoria, out of the hospital room, asking to weigh her. McMahon immediately got out of her hospital bed and ran to pursue the woman, but it was too late and the woman had already left the hospital.

According to McMahon’s Facebook post on Tuesday morning, she said that “I ran to the exit and even when I was there, so many patients and visitors (to the hospital) were helping and quickly gave us information about the woman, and the car she was driving.” She said “thank you to those people, as well as the security personnel at the hospital who were able to find a photo (of the woman) with the help of police.” Consequently, provincial police was able to successfully locate the newborn girl on Monday night almost three hours after she was snatched from the hospital maternity ward at Ville Marie hospital in Trois-Rivières.

Investigators found out the female dressed as nurse bundled up the infant and took the baby out of the mother’s room “under false pretences.” SQ spokesperson, Christine Coulombe, revealed that the suspect exited the hospital at 7:08 p.m. with the baby and got into a red Toyota. An Amber Alert was issued by police and the baby was found shortly after 10 p.m., unharmed, at the suspect’s home in Trois-Rivières.
