An extensive four-month-long national child exploitation investigation has finally culminated into eleven men being charged with child pornography and sex offence charges across B.C. Reports confirm that the RCMP has rescued a total of five children while more than 150 offenders were charged or are under investigation as a result of Operation Snapshot III, i.e. a national probe targeting child sex offenders.

The elaborate investigation started in February and aimed to look after almost 167 cases reported from across the country. Overall in the coast to coast operation, police seized hundreds of computers and hard drives containing nearly two million images or videos, including many involving infants and toddlers. In a press conference held by RCMP Sgt. Michael Petrilli on Thursday in Halifax, Petrilli stated that “I cannot stress enough what these images are and what they are not.” Furthermore, it was added that “these images are not simply children having a bubble bath. They are clearly children that are in a situation where they are being sexually assaulted.”

Among the five kids rescued, two were from B.C., while the other three children belonged to Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. Police has refrained from revealing too much information about the children, but confirmed that their alleged abusers were well known and only some of them were involved in cases of alleged child porn production. Overall, the operation led to arrest of 104 suspects, who are facing 343 charges, including sexual assault, luring, voyeurism, and possession and distribution of child pornography.
