Ontario Provincial Police have announced to have delayed the process of identifying the three people, found burnt beyond recognition in a flaming vehicle, by several days. The vehicle was found by the authorities along a secluded dead-end street northeast of Barrie on Friday. Ontario Provincial Police had planned the autopsies to be conducted on Saturday so they could find out the identities of the three victims and perhaps figure out what sparked the fire.

According to a statement issued by OPP Sgt. Peter Leon on Saturday, he mentioned that “unfortunately the post-mortems have been delayed until early next week due to the complexities of the case.” The investigators have yet to determine whether the vehicle found on Holick Rd. off 4th Line S. in Oro-Medonte Township was set ablaze deliberately or accidentally. Leon stated that “it’s far too early to speculate on what happened,” adding that “but not knowing exactly what we were dealing with, we automatically engaged our criminal investigations branch.”

After visiting the grisly scene on Friday, Leon alleged that the incident was reported by a motorist who spotted smoke while heading southbound on Hwy. 11. He called 911 at 5:30 a.m. and the emergency crews soon responded and found a vehicle “fully engulfed in flames.” Leon explained that “the fire was very intense,” but the firefighters were able to douse the flames within about 10 minutes. He said that “once firefighters were able to get close enough, they found three sets of human remains within the vehicle.”
