A recently revealed audio recording shows that embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s sobriety coach received some serious scolding by a Toronto Police officer for allegedly kicking a protester on Tuesday. The incident took place at Mr. Ford’s Eglinton Ave. W. press conference, where a shirtless protesters showed up to heckle the mayor from behind.

Consequently, the mayor’s chief of staff, Dan Jacobs, called on Toronto Police to report that he was assaulted when the protesters crashed the mayor’s press conference at Eglinton Ave. on Tuesday morning. However, the shirtless protester, W. John Furr, denies Jacobs claim and has a different story. According to a Toronto Police spokesman, Mark Pugash, the officers were told a “protester pushed the mayor’s aide,” whereas the protestors says that “the sobriety consultant kicked the protester in the knee.” A recording surfaced later, which confirmed that a police officer scolded Ford’s sobriety coach Bob Marier, who has been at Ford’s side since the civic leader returned from rehab last week.

Addressing the news during an interview, Jacob explained that “police were called once I was shoved and elbowed aside after asking a member of the public to please step on to the sidewalk to maintain safety and allow free flow of traffic.” Whereas, on the other hand, Furr claism that Jacobs grabbed his shoulder when he stood behind the mayor and held up his sign that read: “You like being mayor? Then be accountable!” He said that “I stepped up beside him and he pushes his elbow into me and shoves me and he says I elbowed him,” adding that “he bumps into me and says I elbowed him.”
