Campers at the Pemberton Music Festival have woken up to hear another upsetting news about police conducting a homicide investigation into a suspicious death at the site. The RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team members were inspecting the area and looking for clues in the early hours of the day, scrubbing an area of about two dozen tents where a “suspicious death” occurred at the northwest campground.

The IHIT is anticipated to return again later this morning to continue combing the area through the tents, which are now saturated with the morning rains. Meanwhile, all festival campers seemed “shocked” and “saddened” by the news, as it spread tense feeling throughout the camp ground and is in stark contrast to the previous night’s musical celebration as police combed through the site with Nine Inch Nails blaring through the background. One of the camper whose tent is about 15 metres away from the scene, Ruwel Colminas, alleged that “it’s a horrible situation. It’s kind of a buzzkill every time we come by and see the police tape and the cops. You don’t really want to be next to that at a festival.” Colminas added that “we just saw legs. We really didn’t see much of the body,”

So far, the IHIT have not revealed any details in to the death, although the investigators confirmed to have identified the victim on Saturday morning. IHIT tweeted that its investigators are in the process of notifying the person’s family.
