Officials confirmed on Monday that a vegetable processing plant, Bonduelle Americas, which caught an enormous fire on Friday might start at least partial production as early as Wednesday. The immersive fire engulfed six warehouses at Bonduelle in Tecumseh and is now estimated to have caused a minimum of $40 to $50 million in damages. However, the plant’s canning facilities, production areas and the mechanical room were largely protected from the flames.

Bonduelle Americas CEO, Daniel Vielfaure, is anticipated to address the plant’s workers this afternoon. Tecumseh mayor, Gary McNamara, confirmed that the plant’s workers were already notified that they could be asked to return to work in the coming days after parts of the production facility were tested over the weekend. An official investigation by Ontario Fire Marshal is underway, which is anticipated to soon determine the cause of the fire. According to the mayor, “Bonduelle called in their sanitation crew and skilled trades people, and they’re gearing up equipment to start production Wednesday morning,” and “this is extremely good news.”

Tecumseh Fire crews were investigating the fire and extinguishing hot spots at the Bonduelle plant throughout the weekend, whereas officials returned to the plant around midnight. According to McNamara, almost 140 or more farmers in the area are also pleased with the plans to restart production this week. McNamara stated that “this happened at the worst time of the year,” because “there’s roughly about $20 million worth of crops in the fields right now.”
