73-year-old Calgary senior resident, Kenneth Jelley, is devastated to learn that his 1962 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, which he owned since 41 years and named Betsy, was stolen. He explained that “when I realized it had been taken, for two hours I sat and thought to myself, ‘what the heck am I going to do?’ It was what they call on the movies a traumatic experience.” Jelley added that “I hotfooted it over to the police station and we started the process.”

Jelley elucidated that he bought the car in the Pennysaver in 1973 for $1,600. He confessed to have had a new paint job and a few “bits and pieces” replaced over the years and boasted that the vintage vehicle was last evaluated at $35,000 about six months ago. However, Jelly insists that the car has much more than monetary value to 73-year-old Jelley. He said that “it’s the only classic car I’ve ever owned and it was my baby. I had this car for 40 years. We were joined at the hip.”

Jelly remembered taking the car for a spin around the lot to exercise the engine from time to time in order to avoid “circulation problems.” He alleged that “she’s an old girl. You have to be careful.” He alleged that “I was feeling that since I could practically see the car from my balcony it wasn’t in any terrible danger, but turns out I was wrong.”
