According to a telephonic survey conducted by Forum Research, the three leading candidates in Toronto’s mayoral race are in an almost tie situation as Olivia Chow leads with the support of 29 per cent of respondents while John Tory scored 28 per cent and Ford was third with 27 per cent. On the other hand, only five per cent supported Karen Stintz and another five per cent David Soknacki.

Compared to a similar poll conducted by the same company on July 2, Chow’s support has decline by seven points while Tory and Ford are both were up by one point each. At the time of previous poll conducted two month ago, Ford was still in rehab and his support lied at 22 per cent and so Chow had a lead of 11 point over him and a six point edge on Tory.

In his remarks, Forum Research President Dr. Lorne Bozinoff explained that “it appears that Rob Ford is not going away anytime soon, but neither has he been able to maintain his pre‐rehab levels of popularity, even among the demographic groups we know are sympathetic to him. John Tory, once a second place contestant, is now in the front ranks, but it appears advantage is still to Chow.” It was further calculated in the event of a three-way race among the main contenders, Chow would have 35 per cent of the vote compared to 32 per cent for Tory and 27 per cent for Ford.
