Edmonton Police has revealed that a thief who failed to steal a truck last Friday has stolen the cremated remains of a nine-year-old boy who died in a plane crash, Dawson Pentecost, and probably doesn’t even know what he has taken from the family. The suspect first attempted to steal a truck but when he failed to start it, he grabbed whatever he could and took off with loose change and a necklace.

The police has revealed that the necklace was a piece of “cremation jewellery” that holds the remains of Dawson Pentecost, who died when a plane flown by his friend’s father crashed Feb. 10, 2013,  Darren Spence, as well as his sons Logan and Gage, were killed when the Cessna 210C hit the ground in poor weather shortly after takeoff. According to a statement issued by Const. Michael Roblin of the Edmonton Police Service, it was mentioned that “it’s very likely that the thief had no idea about the tremendous sentimental value of this piece of jewellery.” Asking the public for help, Roblin added that “it is our hope the necklace will be recovered and returned to its rightful owners, even if it is turned in anonymously.”

It was explained that the pendant on the necklace is a cross, almost four centimetres in height, and contains five crystals. The authorities have described the suspect as a white man in his late teens or early 20s with blonde, curly hair.
