An Oshawa man has been charged after allegedly having inappropriate contact with a young boy in the mid-1990s.

The DRPS Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit recently concluded an historical sexual assault investigation that occurred between 1994 and 1996. During these years, the accused allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a young boy who was 8-10 years old at the time. The incidents occurred in Whitby, where the accused used to live.

John Anthony Parnis, age 59 of Mary Street North in Oshawa is charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, and Invitation to Sexual Touching. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Throughout the course of the investigation, it was determined that the accused had been a youth worker in Durham Region for many years. Although these charges are not connected to his activities as a youth worker, investigators want to ensure there are no other victims.
