A Vancouver Taxi Association representative, Carolyn Bauer, has announced to have imposed a new vomit fee of $75 fee in general. According to Bauer, the rule will not be applied to children or people with a stomach flu but in fact it’s aimed at people partying on Friday and Saturday nights.

Bauer elucidated that “we’ve looked at absolutely everything and felt that $75 was reasonable. [We considered the time] the taxi has [to take] to leave the location where the situation has happened, come back to the lot or find a gas station with the shampoo in it, clean it, make sure that the seats are completely wiped down and try to get an air freshener in the vehicle so that he can again transport passengers.” She further added that “we can’t put someone in a taxi if the seats are wet. We’ve got to take that time to dry the seats.”

In addition to that, Bauer alleged that “the police were not aware of any set fee. Now they’re aware of a set fee. They will know — if they’re called on scene for a situation — that yes, the taxi operator has a right to do that.” However, Bauer confessed that enforcement will be tricky because “if they don’t get the money, we really can’t enforce it. We’re not going to bog down the Vancouver Police; they’re already bogged down on Friday and Saturday evenings with the amounts of crowds down there.”
