Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s former chief of staff who resigned after getting involved in the Senate expenses scandal, Nigel Wright, has announced to return to his previous employer, i.e. private equity firm called Onex. An official statement issued by the company on Monday has confirmed that Mr. Wright will join the London office as a managing director.

A statement issued by Onex’s chairman and CEO, Gerry Schwartz, mentioned that “we missed Nigel during his leave of absence and are excited to have him back.” It explained that “Nigel is an experienced investor and a great asset to our team.” Upon joining as the Prime Minister’s Office chief of staff, Wright took a leave of absence from the company in 2010. However, when he retired from his role in the PMO in May 2013, he was expected to return to work at Onex. A lengthy investigation by the RCMP has formally concluded not to charge Mr. Wright in connection with the scandal.

However on the other hand, Mounties announced to have laid 31 charges against Mr. Duffy, including bribery of a judicial officer, frauds on the government and breach of trust in relation to the cheque. Upon news about Wright’s anticipated return to Onex in June, high-ranking Conservatives began bidding him farewell from Ottawa with a handful of dinners and parties. Mr Wright mentioned in a statement that “I am very pleased to be back at Onex and am looking forward to helping build our business.”
