Toronto’s Deputy Mayor, Norm Kelly, has reinforced calls that ask Toronto’s Integrity Commissioner to look into several allegations that claim the city’s Mayor Rob Ford and his councilor brother attempted to use their position in office to advance the interests of clients of their family firm.

The deputy mayor who was awarded almost all mayoral powers by council last year, Mr. Kelly, highlighted his concerns about the findings listed in a series of investigative reports. According to the reports, the mayor and his brother intervened with city bureaucrats on behalf of companies that have business interests with the Ford family business, i.e. Deco Labels and Tags. Making a statement on Monday, Mr. Kelly said that “it’s a serious enough allegation that I think it should be looked at one way or the other.” He alleged that “it would look as if there may have been a business interest involved in this, so I think that has to be explored.”

According to one recent such report published on Monday, evidence was provided to claim that U.S. printing giant, RR Donnelley and Sons, was vying for city business with the help of the mayor and his brother. Furthermore, the report pointed out that Ford brothers are doing so because RR Donnelley and Sons is a Deco client. According to the report, Deco was subcontracted by Moore Canada, which is owned by RR Donnelley, to print baggage tags. Councillor Doug Ford stated that the sales person responsible for the account.
