Investigators with the York Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit have charged one driver following a fatal collision in the City of Vaughan.

On Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 2:40 p.m., York Regional Police were called to the scene of a collision involving a motorcycle and a truck in the area of Rutherford Road and Highway 27. A landscape truck and a motorcycle had both been driving west on Rutherford Road when for unknown reasons the truck attempted to make a U-turn from the curb lane and entered the lane occupied by the motorcycle and collided with it.

The male driver of the motorcycle, a 47-year-old man from the City of Barrie suffered life-threatening injuries. A concerned witness quickly began first aid efforts, however the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the landscape truck, Meindert Kamstra, 64, of the City of Vaughan, has been charged with Dangerous Driving Cause Death. He will be appearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Newmarket on September 4, 2014.

The investigation is ongoing.

  1. Man got a slap on the wrist for killing my little brother, $2000 fine, and a license restrictions, but still allowed to drive the same truck that killed my little brother. How many people lives does he have to ruin to not drive anymore. People who committed lesser things to animals, get bigger fines and jail time..my life and my family live is now upscomment_IDe down…we need stiffer penalty for killing someone when we drive a motor vehicle. Now is the time for that to happen, not after its too late and another person gets a careless driving charge killing some poor innocent person. And another family is devastated..we as a society need to step up to change laws to correct this from happening again
