A man faces charges in connection with a sexual assault that occurred last year.

On November 19, 2013, Halifax Regional Police received a complaint from an 18-year-old woman about a sexual assault that had occurred the previous night. The suspect met socially with the victim and they attended a downtown establishment together. She woke up the next day and attended the hospital as she believed she had been sexually assaulted.

After an investigation by officers assigned to the Integrated Major Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division, a man was arrested without incident after he turned himself in at Police Headquarters earlier this afternoon. Thirty-one-year-old Craig Joseph Marchand of Halifax is facing charges of sexual assault, administering a noxious substance and voyeurism. He was released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.

From the evidence gathered in this investigation, officers believe that there may be other women who were victimized in similar ways.
