Toronto’s prominent Mayoral candidate, Karen Stintz, has unexpectedly announced to step out of the mayoral race. During a press conference at City Hall on Thursday, Stintz mentioned that “it is with great disappointment that I am announcing my decision to exit the race to be the next mayor for Toronto.” She confessed that “I am disappointed that my vision and ideas did not gain the traction I had hoped.”
Stintz refrained from endorsing any of her rival candidates, although she did reiterate her intention of not running for re-election to council in Eglinton-Lawrence (Ward 16). She explained that “looking forward I hope the conversations I have started and the solutions I have offered help the residents of Toronto make a thoughtful choice on Election Day.” In addition to that, Stintz alleged that “every election is important, the leadership of this city matters. I encourage everyone to exercise their choice.”
Explaining the reasons behind her decision, Stintz admitted that “absent of more substantive level of support, I must conclude my efforts.” She elucidated that “I am proud though of my efforts over the last six months, I am proud that I’m someone who stood up against the odds to make a difference in our city. And through my efforts I believe I made an impact on the mayoral race.” She stressed that it is time for her to “start a new chapter” and “my immediate plans are to get through the next council meeting and then get my kids ready to go back to school.”
