Windsor Police have announced to have arrested a male suspect armed with a knife after an almost seven hours’ standoff on Sunday morning on Ouellette Avenue. According to Windsor police spokesman, Sgt. Matt D’ Asti, their officers found a male occupant at the time of their arrival, who was alone in an apartment on 1616 Ouellette Ave. and had barricaded himself inside. The undisclosed tenant claims to have arrived home after work and found the man sitting on her couch holding a knife.

Thereafter, the tenant explained to have ran to a friend’s unit in the complex and called police. Consequently, police confirms to have set up a perimeter around the apartment building and closed Ouellette Avenue in both directions between Tecumseh Road and Hanna Street, as well as Dufferin Place, between Tecumseh Road and Hanna. Meanwhile, neighbors report to have heard yelling and loud noises from the second floor soon after 1 a.m. Sunday. One of the neighbor, Samantha Boyce, reportedly mentioned that “we heard the guy yelling he woke up and his girlfriend is gone.” She alleged that “I swear he was banging a hole through my kitchen wall. You could hear my drywall crumbling.”

Whereas, the unnamed resident stressed that the suspect was not her boyfriend and they only met three weeks ago and he was arrested for attempting to break into her apartment earlier this week. Both were listening to the situation unfold until police finally let them out at 6 a.m. after arresting the suspect.
