In an attempt to intercept and arrest a cyclist, Quebec City police cruiser allegedly ran over him yesterday and caused the man’s life. According to at least one of the witnesses, Alexandre Beaulieu, the man was trapped under the car “in a fetal position.” Beaulieu mentioned that “they ran over the guy, the guy ended up under the car. For an entire 15 seconds; he was under the tire in a fetal position.”

The incident was confirmed by the provincial police, which also confirmed that the almost 50-year-old man passed away in the hospital on Wednesday night. The incident took place at the corner of St-François East and Du Parvis streets at around 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday in the St-Roch neighbourhood. The Sûreté du Québec has been called in to investigate the incident since it involves local police. Witnesses confirm that the victim was riding in the wrong direction and that the officers in the car tried to intercept him. However, it was explained that while backing up, the cruiser trapped the cyclist under the car. Beaulieu added that the officers got out of the car, saw the man caught under the wheels, and then got back into the patrol car and roll over the victim a second time.

Beaulieu’s account of events was confirmed by other witnesses too. A second witness confirmed to have heard the police inform the cyclist that he was under arrest while “he was spitting blood.” Thereafter, police put him in the ambulance without putting him on a stretcher first.
