Although the summer is not even over yet, Calgary and central Alberta are anticipated to be greeted by an almost five centimetres of snow on Monday. Whereas, the September “snowshower” has come almost less than 24 hours after soaring temperatures in Calgary reached 25C on Sunday afternoon.

According to a special weather bulletin by Environment Canada, most of the precipitation would likely melt immediately, although it did caution that snow might accumulate. Calgary Mayor, Naheed Nenshi, posted on Twitter that “as much as it hurts to say this,” “when there’s snow, leave extra time and distance between you and other vehicles. Sigh.” Meanwhile, Environment Canada has forecasted a possible snow in the region until Wednesday, with temperatures dropping to as low as -3C before jumping back to 17C over the weekend.

Whereas on the other hand, it snowed in Edmonton on Monday too, which is the earliest in 10 years. According to the remarks of meteorologist, Dan Kulak, “that’s Western Canada for you,” and “it’s not a common occurrence but it’s not rare or unheard of.” An unexpected look-alike of Environment Canada missive was circulated online on Monday informed Calgarians they would receive the “first snowfall of the season … which everybody else in Canada will rightly make fun of you for.” Although Mr. Kulak alleged that the bulletin was a fake as “it looks like [the doctored version] is getting quite popular,” correcting that the snow is a product of a cold front moving through the region.
