A spokesperson for Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, Amin Massoudi, mentioned in a statement issued outside City Hall that it is “business as usual” at city hall while the mayor awaits further information on a tumour in his abdomen. Mr. Ford was admitted to Humber River Hospital on Wednesday after feeling abdominal pain during breakfast. According to the doctors, a CT scan has confirmed that Mr. Ford have a tumour, but further biopsy is needed to determine whether it is malignant or benign.

In his remarks on Thursday morning, Amin Massoudi mentioned that “we are carrying on business as usual. We are dealing with the constituents that are calling us, we are helping Toronto residents and we are doing the work of the mayor’s office as we were.” Furthermore, it was added that “I just want to reiterate the request from the mayor’s family for some privacy from the media at this difficult time. It is very important.”

Whereas on the other hand, Doug Ford refrained from expressively addressing the media on Thursday morning outside the hospital as he said that he “needs a day or so.” Earlier when Mr. Ford was in rehab, there were speculations that the mayor’s brother and campaign manager, Doug Ford, would be asked to replace him as a mayoral candidate in the event that his brother was unable to run. However, at this time the deadline for candidates to register is tomorrow, i.e. Friday, Sept. 12, and so if that decision needs to be made, the Fords are running out of time.
