Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, John Baird, has reiterated that the beheading of British aid worker David Haines, which was likely performed by a fellow countryman-turned-terrorist, is a horrific atrocity by Islamic State militants. Baird gave these remarks after attending an international conference in Paris, where diplomats from all over the globe had convened to unify a common strategy against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.

In addition to that, Baird revealed that all countries attending the conference, including Canada, have likely supplied foreign fighters to ISIL and stressed that so more needs to be done to stop the flow of foreign fighters into the Middle East conflict. Baird announced that Canada will be conducting military airlifts out of the Czech Republic to supply Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq with arms and ammunition.

Whereas on the other hand, British Prime Minister David Cameron has mentioned that the U.K. will take “whatever steps are necessary” to fight the Islamic State after the militant group released video purporting to show the beheading of the British hostage. He mentioned that the U.K. will confront the group with “iron determination,” and promised to bring the killers of David Haines to justice. The murder of Haines might now increase pressure on Cameron to deploy the Royal Air Force to join U.S. attacks on Islamic State since the Britain has so far only used military assets to assist with humanitarian aid, reconnaissance and the delivery of arms and ammunition to forces fighting the Islamist extremist group.
