City council attendance record shows that the most recently entered mayoral candidate, Doug Ford, has the third-worst council attendance this term, while highlighting that he missed more than half of all votes taken in 2014. The first-term councillor for Ward 2, Doug Ford, remained absent for almost 30 per cent of the total 7,813 votes taken during Rob Ford’s four-year mayoralty.

Prior to replacing his brother on the mayoral election ballot on Friday, Doug Ford, spoke intently of his plans to flee city hall and a council he had come to describe as “dysfunctional.” The record shows that Mr. Ford’s attendance got worse in 2014 since he missed nearly 53 per cent of the 1,927 votes taken since the start of 2014. Whereas earlier, he missed just 14 per cent in the 2010-2011 year and almost 29 per cent in 2012, 23 per cent in 2013.

Mr. Ford has confessed to be handling multiple jobs at once, especially since the beginning of the 2014 campaign. He was serving as a councillor, as president of family company Deco Labels and Tags and, from January through last week, as campaign manager for Rob Ford. However, Ford mentioned during an unrelated interview in August that he spends 99 per cent of his time on politics and only “1 per cent” on business. He alleged that “I walk through there (Deco) and say hello to everyone,” adding that “I’m telling you, it’s 99 per cent politics. I go from 6 o’clock in the morning to midnight every single day. This phone never stops ringing.”
