Sources have confirmed that a tentative deal have been reached in the BC teachers dispute, although renowned mediator Vince Ready refrained from releasing any details of the tentative agreement as yet. He stressed that the government and teachers both worked very hard to get to this point, but wouldn’t say which side moved on what.

Addressing reporters this morning, Ready alleged that “the parties are going to meet later [today] and finalize a few of the outstanding details. But generally speaking, [there is] tentative agreement.” He stated that “I’m not at liberty to disclose any of the details, nor will the parties until they finalize them.” Meanwhile, more details are expected to be revealed today about the agreement agreed at around 4p.m. Although BC teachers are expected to vote on the deal on Thursday, it is still unclear when kids will be back in class. The breakthrough in negotiations comes on the fifth day of talks at the Delta Hotel in Richmond between the BCTF and the employers’ association with the help of mediator Vince Ready.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, the BCTF thanked its members for their “commitment, courage and strength” during their months-long strike. The union’s Nancy Knickerbocker confirmed that the teachers are scheduled to discuss details and vote on the agreement on Thursday. Additionally, it was agreed upon that workers will also need to clean and prep schools that have been closed since mid-June. The negotiations were resumed last week under growing pressure from the public.
