20-year-old undisclosed male child pornography suspect, from Eastern Passage, has finally plead guilty of making child pornography by taking a sexually explicit photo of a girl who later died after attempting suicide. The guilty plea was entered in Halifax youth court on Monday, where the suspect was set to go on trial on two charges stemming from a November 2011 incident at his home.

Since the suspect pled guilty to one charge only, the other charge of distributing child pornography was withdrawn by Crown.  The sentencing has been scheduled by Judge Gregory Lenehan for Nov. 13. Meanwhile, defence lawyer Ian Hutchison requested a presentence report on his client. According to the victimized girls’ mother, “none of it’s enough, but the fact that he’s pleading guilty at all is some consolation,” adding that “it’s also some validation that it actually happened. That’s what (my daughter) wanted all along, was some validation for what happened to her.”

Whereas on the other hand, Crown attorney Alex Smith spelled out the agreed statement of facts into the record during the hearing. It was narrated that the victim and another girl were drinking at the suspect’s house with four boys that night and the young man used his cellphone to take a picture of a friend having sex with the victim from behind while she was leaning out his bedroom window vomiting. In the photo, the boy and the girl are both naked from the waist down.
