Police Arrests, Charges 60 Suspects in Online Child Porn Case

Police has confirmed to have arrested 60 suspects across the province who are charged multiple offenses in result of a massive online child exploitation investigation. Overall, the police executed ninety-nine search warrants, which resulted in 249 charges against 60 people, including three youths who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The charges against the suspects include sexual assault, possession of child pornography, make available child pornography, distribution of child pornography, making child pornography, and accessing child pornography. Whereas on the other hand, police confirms that so far 14 child victims have been identified during the investigation, along with quantities of drugs and prohibited weapons seized. The operation was organized by the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. Chief Superintendent Don Bell, Commander of OPP Investigation and Support Bureau mentioned that “the creation and distribution of images of child sexual abuse, the luring of young people by predators, and the proliferation of Internet sites continue to be major concerns to police worldwide.” It was added that “the Provincial strategy demonstrates the success that police services can achieve when working together and sharing our best practices and information.”

The joint investigation team unveiled the details of the operation at a media conference in Vaughan on Sept. 25. In addition to that, police also confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are anticipated in the coming days.
