Ontario Provincial Police have called it a “very happy ending” after they managed to locate the missing two-year-old girl, Brooklyn Honderich, safe in a field in rural southwestern Ontario following an overnight search. According to Ontario Provincial Police Const., Larry Plummer, the toddler was found by a volunteer searcher at around 10 a.m. on Monday, after which she was shifted to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

Const. Plummer explained that Honerich was found at the edge of a cornfield in a bean field, i.e. quite far away from where she was lost the night before. Plummer alleged that paramedics found the girl to be “in very good health.” The girl’s parents had reported her missing on Sunday night after she wandered away from a barn near the village of Norwich, south of Woodstock. Plummer stated that “the parents were working on the farm and she basically wandered away when they were working.” Consequently, an extensive search operation was launched immediately, including several provincial police detachments, emergency response and canine units who combed through area cornfields overnight. A helicopter and nearly 25 police officers took part in the search effort, in addition to numerous volunteers.

Plummer explained that the amount of time that she was missing was a concern due to the weather. He alleged that “thank God last night wasn’t as cold as it has been” because “If it was 8 or 9 (degrees) Celsius, a very small girl, it could have been a problem.” However, he was glad that there was “a very happy ending.”
