Authorities have confirmed that a 65-year-old woman passed away after being struck by a TTC bus near Lawrence West Station on Saturday morning. A TTC spokesperson explained that the woman was in the westbound lanes of Lawrence Avenue West, just west of Allen Road at around 10:30 a.m.

Addressing the media at the crash site, Const. Clint Stibbe elucidated that the woman was struck while attempting to cross the road while the bus was making a left-hand turn. The video surveillance acquired by the authorities allegedly showed that the woman was crossing the street from the north to the south side when she was struck. In his remarks, Stibbe stated that “we have to step back and collect all the evidence and then make an informed decision,” while also confirming that Toronto Paramedic Services pronounced the women dead at the scene. According to Stibbe, the 34-year-year-old bus driver remained at the scene and is cooperating. Additionally, Stibbe stated that it’s not yet clear how many passengers were on the bus at the time of the collision.

Meanwhile, Stibbe assured that officers are currently collecting physical evidence form the bus and video footage from area cameras in order to investigate and establish what exactly happened. Moreover, Stibbe also revealed that mechanical tests will also be conducted on the bus. Although several witness allege that the woman was speaking on a cellphone while crossing the road, it could not be certainly confirmed. Police are still working to try and notify her family.
