The MPP for Ottawa’s Nepean-Carleton riding, Lisa MacLeod, announced her bid for PC party leadership and kick started her campaign on Sunday at the National Arts Centre to a room full of supporters. She has now become the fifth contender vowing to replace outgoing party leader, Tim Hudak.
In her remarks, MacLeod stated that “I believe we need to reconnect with Ontarians by showing them that the values they hold dear are the same values that unite us as Progressive Conservatives.” She added that “when we do that, we will grow our base and we will expand our appeal in growth communities across the province and in the GTA, just like I have been able to do successfully here in Ottawa.” Furthermore, she vowed that “as leader, I will stand up for the many accomplishments of previous PC governments and they are in stark contrast with the Liberal government. Like you, I believe in this party and I believe in this province.”
Conclusively, MacLeod also stated that “at the end of the day, the biggest thing that I’m going to be able to do is reconnect with people who haven’t been supporting our party.” She alleged that “I think people will either look at my story or my energy, the teams that I’ve been able to build, and they’ll find that we can be successful under that model,” adding that “I want you to believe in me.” She said “through restoring belief in the Ontario PC Party, we will once again be the best place in Canada to work, to live and to raise a family.”
