Family of the 53-year-old soldier slain during a terror attack last week in Quebec, Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, mentioned in a statement announcing funeral arrangements that he “loved life” and his service was “his way of making a difference in our world.”

Vincent was killed in a hit and run case after being struck by a car while walking through a parking lot in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que. Thereafter, the culprit, Martin Rouleau-Couture, was shot dead by police following a brief car chase. According to the statement issued by Vincent’s family, his death “will leave an immense emptiness in our hearts.” The family highlighted that Vincent was proud to serve in the Armed Forces and “he did what he loved and we gave him our support during his 28 years of service.” Whereas on the other hand, the federal government has linked the attack to “terrorist ideology,” identifying Rouleau-Couture as one of dozens of people on an RCMP list of high-risk travelers who had their passports revoked.

In addition to that, Vincent’s family also addressed Couture-Rouleau’s family, saying that their thoughts are with them “as they go through these difficult moments,” while also offering condolences to the family of the soldier shot dead last Wednesday, Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, while standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The Vincent family stated that “know that we share your grief and that we are with you wholeheartedly.”
