Chad Davidson and Darryl Speight arrested for auto theft in Hamilton

Two men have been arrested and charged after the stolen vehicle they were driving in was spotted and reported to Hamilton Police by the City of Hamilton By-Law officer operating the AutoFind vehicle.

On Wednesday, November 17th, 2010, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a Pontiac Transport van was stolen from the parking lot at 50 Dundurn St. S. It is alleged that the two males involved in the theft then drove the van to two homes on the Hamilton Mountain where they broke into the homes, stealing several items including jewellery and electronics. At one of the homes entered, the homeowner was inside the residence and was able to provide police with a description of the suspects involved.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., the stolen van was seen in the area of Sanford Ave. and King St. by a City of Hamilton AutoFind By-Law Officer. The officer notified Hamilton Police and continued to follow the vehicle to the area of Mary St. and Barton St. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Hamilton Police officers responded to the area and located the suspects in a rear yard in the area.

During the search of the recovered stolen vehicle, Hamilton Police located items that had been stolen from the two Hamilton Mountain homes.

Both suspects were arrested and will be appearing for a bail hearing scheduled for November 18th, 2010.

Charged: Chad DAVIDSON, 31 yrs, of Hamilton
Darryl SPEIGHT, 31 yrs. of Hamilton
Charges: Break and Enter with Intent x 2
Theft Under $5,000.00
Possession of Stolen Property x 3

Darryl SPEIGHT is additionally charged with breach of Recognizance.
