Police has confirmed to have charged the bus driver who allegedly got involved in a fight with a passenger at a bus loop in Burnaby yesterday. According to the Bus Drivers Union’s Nathan Woods, the bus driver charged with assault causing bodily harm has 25 years’ experience and never got involved in a situation like this. He said that “I do know that if there is some sort of violence or erratic behaviour there are other people at the bus loop. This person did show some pretty egregious behaviour.”

According to The Coast Mountain Bus Company, it has started its own investigation into the incident that took place at Lougheed Station. Several witnesses reportedly claim that the driver assaulted the young man when he ran up and knocked on the door to get in. However, the union representing the driver asserts there was no violence.

Coast Mountain’s Michael Madill explained that two different stories are emerging. Madill elucidated that it “sounds like it was an unfortunate situation that happened at Lougheed but as I said we don’t have all the facts so we’ll continue gathering the facts and then we’ll respond accordingly.” He said that “I think what you’ve probably seen is some points of view from people who were interviewed by news media but I don’t think you will have seen the full picture at this point.” Medill added that all drivers undergo an extensive training on how to handle all types of situations. Meanwhile, Burnaby RCMP has also confirmed to be investigating the matter.
