One-term Toronto City Councilor, Doug Ford, has finally announced to have made up his mind and decided not to run for the leadership of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives. Announcing the decision at a press conference, Ford mentioned on Thursday morning that “it’s been the most difficult decision of my entire life,” adding that “tougher than deciding whether to run for mayor, run for council, any decision I’ve ever made.”

In his remarks, Ford alleged that he was still thinking about the decision last night. Ford’s brother and outgoing Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford, “wasn’t happy” in his decision not to run. Ford said “but again, I love him. His priority right now is make sure he gets healthy.” Former PC leader, Tim Hudak, announced to have resigned in response to the June 12 provincial election defeat at the hands of governing Liberals amid conditions that were thought to be favourable to the opposition.

Ford alleged that the PC party needs “change” as it has lost the last four elections. He said that “we need change at the province. We need change at the PC party,” adding that “we can’t go back to the same old ways, the backroom boys running the party. We need fresh blood.” However, Ford did not refute the idea of running for political office later. He said “I’m taking a break for a little bit” and added that “I love politics. I love serving people. Just at this stage of my life I need to take a little break.”
