Saint-Léonard RCMP have charged a 19-year-old man with attempted murder following an attack on a taxi driver that occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on November 26, 2014. The victim, a 58-year-old man from Edmundston, was injured and remains in hospital in stable condition.
The suspect was arrested in a wooded area near the Saint-Léonard airport a short time after the incident with the assistance of an RCMP police dog. Investigators believe the victim and the suspect were not known to each other and that the suspect acted alone. The investigation is continuing.
Jules Côté, a 19-year-old man from Moncton, appeared in Edmundston Provincial Courton November 27 and was charged with attempted murder. He was remanded into custody and will undergo a 30-day psychological evaluation. Côté is scheduled to return to court on December 22, at 1:30 p.m.
