On Friday, November 19, 2010, officers working out of the Homicide Unit located and arrested Kimsan HEANG, 27, of Toronto, without incident. Mr. HEANG was identified by investigators as the fifth suspect involved in the October stabbings which claimed the life of a Newmarket man and seriously injured another.
Mr. HEANG has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Saturday, November 20, 2010.
Four other suspects Sinhem SRUN, 32, Meng Ly LIM, 28, Cho CHEA, 24 and Veasna SAM, 30, all of Toronto, were apprehended in October, 2010 in connection with this homicide.
Three of these men are scheduled to appear next before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Tuesday, November 23, 2010.
Mr. SAM is scheduled to appear on Tuesday, November 30, 2010.
On Saturday, October 16, 2010, at approximately 11:50 p.m. police responded to a disturbance call at a plaza located at 398 Ferrier Street, in the Town of Markham. Uniform officers arrived on scene and learned that an altercation had taken place at this location and that there were injured individuals being transported by friends to hospital. Officers attended the hospital and learned that two individuals had been admitted to the hospital and were suffering from stab wounds.
One of the individuals, identified as Mr. Vandin SVAY of Newmarket, succumbed to his injuries, while a 24-year-old Newmarket, also critically injured, survived. The cause of Mr. SVAY’S death has been determined to be sharp-force trauma.
