Jamal Garrison and Alex Frederick charged with drug and weapon offences in Toronto

On Saturday, November 20, 2010, police officers were on patrol in the Oakwood Avenue/Earlsdale Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

– while several males were being investigated by the officers, they fled from police who then initiated pursuit on foot,

– as a result, an 18-year-old man was arrested and found in possession of a quantity of cocaine and a knife,

– a 19-year-old man was arrested after he stumbled and dropped a loaded .38 calibre revolver,

– a third male, a 17-year-old, during the foot pursuit, turned and pointed a semi-automatic pistol at an officer, pulled the trigger and attempted to shoot the officer,

– the pistol malfunctioned and did not discharge,

– the boy was arrested and a loaded semi-automatic pistol was seized.

Jamal Garrison, 18, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Possession of Cocaine,
2. three counts of Fail to Comply Probation.

Alex Frederick, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. two counts of Assaulting a Peace Officer,
2. two counts of Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest,
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized,
4. Possession of Prohibited Weapon Obtained by the Commission of an Offence,
5. Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon,
6. Possession of Prohibited Device for a Dangerous Purpose,
7. Careless Use of a Firearm,
8. Transfer of Firearm without Authority,
9. Unauthorized Presence of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle,
10. Careless Storage Ammunition,
11. Fail to Comply Probation.

A 17-year-old young offender, has been charged with:

1. Attempted Murder While Using Firearm,
2. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized,
3. Possession of Prohibited Weapon Obtained by the Commission of an Offence,
4. Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon,
5. Possession of Prohibited Device for a Dangerous Purpose,
6. Careless use of a Firearm,
7. Transfer of Firearm without Authority,
8. Transfer Prohibited Device without Authority,
9. Unauthorized Presence of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle,
10. Unauthorized Presence of a Prohibited Device in a Motor Vehicle,
11. Pointing a Firearm,
12. two counts of Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest,
13. Careless Storage Ammunition.

The accused appeared in court at Old City Hall on Sunday, November 21, 2010.
