During a short and busy trip to St. John’s this week, Federal Liberal Leader, Justin Trudeau, addressed several questions related to Liberal MP recently ejected from caucus, Scott Andrews, due to sexual harassment allegations involving a female NDP MP. In his remarks, Trudeau stressed that there are serious allegations involved and he’s taking the matter seriously.

Mr. Trudeau stated that “we are taking this step-by-step, and this is a serious process,” adding that “we are looking into a number of different next steps, and we will have an announcement soon. We will be letting people know about our next steps in due course.” Trudeau was greeted by a huge crowd at the Swilers Rugby club on Thursday evening and addressed the audience for almost 15 minutes before taking pictures with supporters. At the time, Trudeau stated that “I’ve been very specific about actually offering a government that’s willing to partner with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, respect its provincial partners and talk about the challenges we’re facing, whether it’s around education or health care.”

Highlighting the need for a more hopeful, inclusive brand of politics, Trudeau stressed that “the kinds of arguments and spats and disagreements that end up being political, but not actually serving our citizens, need to stop.” He mentioned that “the challenges that we’re facing are not going to be solved by pointing fingers or slamming doors. They’re going to be solved the way all challenges in this country are solved — by a bunch of us rolling up our sleeves and getting down to work together.”
