Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau has discussed or revealed very little about his remarks on the situation involving suspended Liberal MP Scott Andrews, except only alleging that he takes the situation seriously. The party spokesperson announced on Friday that it had assigned human rights and labour lawyer, Cynthia Petersen, to investigate allegations against Andrews and another suspended MP, Massimo Pacetti.

In his remarks over the announcement, Trudeau just mentioned that “I look forward to seeing her advice. More than that, I’m not going to speculate on outcome.” However, the Liberal leader refrained from commenting over how long he expects the process to take, or whether any of the findings will be made public. Moreover, he also remained silent over the question of whether Andrews will be invited back into caucus if the results of the investigation are favourable.

During a short and busy visit to St. Johns, Trudeau addressed St. Johns Board of Trade luncheon at the Delta Hotel, discussing his vision for political leadership in very broad terms and taking very specific swipes at Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Trudeau criticized the Harper government far shutting down maritime rescue sub-centre but spending more than that on advertising. Referring to Harper, Trudeau stated that “he refused to spend less than $1 million to keep you and your families safe, while spending three-quarters of a billion on propaganda for his tired government,” adding that “you’re good enough to be advertised to in the middle of a hockey game, but not good enough to be rescued if your fishing trawler goes down in the middle of a storm.”
