In an unexpected turn of events, two men threw a snake over the counter towards an employee of a Saskatoon Tim Hortons after being refused to be served diced onions on a breakfast sandwich. Saskatoon police soon took control of the situation and arrived at the Tim Hortons in the 600 block of 22nd Street West on Monday at around 7:30 a.m.

Saskatoon police spokeswoman, Alyson Edwards, revealed that the staff members present at the coffee shop immediately “fled the store in fear.” Edwards alleged that “I’ve never heard of a snake being thrown at an employee by a customer … It was definitely a little chaotic,” adding that “the staff was shocked and afraid and fled the store.” Later police discovered that the two male customers were arguing with the employee about their breakfast order as they wanted their onions diced. However, the argument escalated and one of the men reached into the pocket of the other and pulled out a garter snake and threw it behind the counter. Police confirmed that no one was injured due to the incident.

Edwards confirmed that officers quickly made sure that the snake was not venomous and have now found a temporary home for the snake until it can be released into the wild in the spring. Furthermore, Edwards shared that the only other incident of the type in the past involved theft of a snake from the Forestry Farm. Police has charged both 20-year-old men with mischief and causing a disturbance.
