The Crown has urged the jury in Luka Magnotta murder case to find the accused guilty of first-degree murder for killing Jun Lin, disposing of evidence and “hiding” in Germany. According to the closing arguments made on Thursday, prosecutor Louis Bouthillier imposed that Magnotta was “extremely organized” and not insane as claimed by the defense. Bouthillier asked the jury to find him guilty “on all five counts…I will ask you to find him guilty as charged.”

The prosecutor reviewed Magnotta’s activities in the days after May 25, 2012, i.e. when he has confessed to have killed 33-year-old exchange student Lin. The Crown highlighted that Magnotta made 16 trips to garbage bins at his west Montreal unit and four trips to post offices to mail Lin’s body parts. The Crown alleged that Magnotta bought a new travel bag and Lin’s torso was later found in a bag that had been sprayed with white paint, slashed, sealed with a lock and left on the curb. In addition to that, Magnotta bought new sheets for his bed and purchased a plane ticket for France.

Bouthillier stressed that “during those 48-odd hours, Mr. Magnotta is a very, very busy man,” adding that “very purposeful in doing things and there doesn’t seem to be any indication of him not being in contact with the outside world at this point.” Although 32-year-old Magnotta has admitted to dismembering Lin and mailing his hands and feet across Canada, he wants the jury to find him not criminally responsible due to schizophrenia-induced psychosis.
