An off-duty Vancouver police officer is being credited for his quick thinking and memory after a sex offender was arrested over the weekend for breaching two of his conditions of release.

On Saturday, November 20th just before 4:00 p.m. an off-duty VPD officer was at the Mount Pleasant Community Centre at 1 Kingsway Avenue when he recognized a sex offender with a lengthy criminal history watching toddler-aged children. The officer watched the man and when he tried to leave, the officer detained him outside and was able to flag over a passing police wagon.

The officers were able to query the man on police databases and found he was in violation of his probation by being within 100 meters of a community centre.

Donald William Snow, a 55 year old Vancouver resident, who has a lengthy record of sex crimes, including crimes against children, has been charged with one count of Breach of Probation. He was remanded into custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for this morning at 9:30 a.m. in Provincial Court.
