Two Vancouver radio stations have publicly apologized and a show has been cancelled until the new year after a host, Jeff O’Neill, questioned guests during a simulcast whether Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau would “F, marry or kill” given the choice between three prominent women in Canadian politics.

Questioning CKNW guest hosts, Chris Gailus and Squire Barnes, CFOX show host, Jeff O’Neill, inquired what Barnes would ask Trudeau during an upcoming interview. Later, O’Neill proposed that Gailus should ask the Liberal leader who he would “F, marry or kill” given the choice between the prime minister’s wife Laureen Harper, Health Minister Rona Ambrose and former governor general Michaelle Jean. The comment received severe criticism and reaction on social media and from listeners, while many pressed that the hosts should be sacked.

However in response to the growing criticism, CFOX has issued a formal apology for the comment and announced to have canceled O’Neill’s show for the rest of 2014. In addition to that, CKNW brand director, Ian Koenigfest, personally apologized to the station’s listeners as he stated that “I personally don’t find that funny. I think it’s offensive to women. And at the first opportunity I have now I would like to apologize to women and men who listen to CKNW. It’s certainly not in the spirit of this radio station and I offer an unreserved apology for that.” Koenigfest also apologized to Gailus and Squires “for being put in an awkward situation.”
