A recent poll conducted by Mainstreet Technologies has found that Alberta Tories have successfully stretched their lead against demolished opposition, partially signaling that Albertans largely oppose Danielle Smith’s decision to lead eight fellow Wildrose MLAs to Jim Prentice’s Progressive Conservative government.

The survey report revealed to have found 44 per cent support of decided voters to the PCs, while 20 per cent vowed to cast a ballot for the leaderless Wildrose. Thereafter, New Democrats placed third with 18 per cent of support, followed by the Liberals with 14 per cent and the Alberta Party at four per cent. The poll entailed phone calls of 3,128 Albertans on Sunday. The results have stressed that PCs under Prentice have improved their popular standing from earlier this month. Meanwhile, Wildrose had held a consistent lead in polls while Alison Redford was premier. President of Mainstreet, Quito Maggi, stated that “despite what the general public feels about the floor crossing, I think the fact that Prentice is doing such a good job is part of the reason why they crossed the floor to begin with, is part of the reason why support is up.”

A few days after Smith and numerous other Wildrose MLAs crossed the floor to join Prentice’s government, 59 per cent staunchly opposed the move that quite noticeably deflated the opposition party and reshaped the province’s political landscape. Whereas, thirty-one per cent of respondents vowed to support the floor-crossing and the rest indicated they weren’t sure.
