GO Transit commuters faced severe delays on Christmas Eve after a pedestrian fatality west of Port Credit disrupted their service. The incident took place on the Lakeshore West line at around 2 p.m. in the 1:13 p.m. train (T717) from Union Station to Aldershot station, which was normally set to arrive at 2:21 p.m.

The officials terminated all westbound trains at Port Credit and buses were sought to allow the passengers to travel between Port Credit and Clarkson stations. Whereas, eastbound train traffic stopped at Clarkson for bus connection to Port Credit trains. According to an announcement made via Twitter at 3 p.m., GO Transit stated that the train will not move until the police investigation was complete. At the time, officials made the passengers walk westbound in the train in order to exit, from where they were made to board buses. An announcement made by 3:45 p.m. confirmed that all passengers from the train have been evacuated and had left to board buses.

However, passengers on eastbound train were stuck for hours.  The train turned around and dropped the passengers off in Oakville. One of the passengers who got stuck for 2.5 hours, Kloosterman, stated that “my parents are going to pick me up,” as “our plan was to attend a Christmas church service here in Oakville so it actually works out.” Eventually, GO Transit announced at 5:07 p.m. that “service has resumed with reduced track capacity and speed restrictions.”
