A gang-related shooting at the Tanger Outlet Mall has sent one victim to hospital and shut down the mall on the busiest shopping day of the year, i.e. Boxing Day, on Friday afternoon. According to the police, the victim is known to them and has been uncooperative with officers. In addition to that, police also took two more men in their custody during investigation on Friday, who were released later.

Ottawa police guns and gangs unit representative, Staff Sgt. Ken Bryden, explained in a press release that “this was not a random event. This was definitely a targeted shooting. We believe the person who did pull the trigger had an intended target.” It was explained that police is currently looking for two “persons of interest” allegedly involved in the shooting in order to determine who fired the 40-caliber gun. He said that investigators believe the shooting is related to the Crips gang.

Bryden stated that “this has kind of given us an idea of where we’re at today with organized street gangs and crime groups that are conducting their business in a public forum.” Bryden confirmed that investigators are scrutinizing all security footage from the mall, along with other videos, and awaiting statements from witnesses in order to examine what took place on Friday afternoon. Bryden stated that “we still have two persons of interest that have not been spoken to by police that we believe were at that scene or involved in that incident.”
