Police have confirmed to have charged an 18-year-old man, William Benjamin Dane Hunter-Garrioch, with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a 24-year-old woman with pallet gun at a North End rooming house on Christmas Eve. The victim and the suspect shared the same rooming house on Aberdeen Avenue and the suspect allegedly broke into the woman’s room before shooting her in the upper body.

The call to paramedics was made at around 8:30 p.m., after which the woman was transported to the hospital in unstable condition, though she is stable now. According to details provided by police spokesperson, Const. Eric Hofley, there is no evidence that indicates that both were romantically involved, adding that the only connection that seems plausible is that they shared living quarters. Furthermore, Hofley elucidated that the man is charged with attempted murder due to the circumstances surrounding the incident. He explained that “it was the intent, so obviously during the course of the investigation investigators must have gleaned something from the accused of what his intent was.”

Hofley stated that the fact that the man had several other weapons in his possession also contributed to to the attempted murder charge. He confirmed that Hunter-Garrioch also faces charges including, but not limited to aggravated assault, three counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, discharge of an air gun with intent and break and enter.
