November 25 was observed around the world as women and men continue to struggle against rape, recognised by international law as a form of torture and other forms of violence perpetrated against women. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo.

On December 17, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated November 25as the annual date for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in commemoration of the sisters. This day also marks the beginning of the 16 days of Activism against Gender Violence. The end of the 16 Days is December 10, International Human Rights Day.

This day is marked by the wearing of a white ribbon.

He shot twenty-eight people in total before killing himself. His suicide note said that feminists had ruined his life.

How to shame a sex offender
