A 22-year-old Clarington man escaped injury after his pickup truck was struck by a freight train yesterday in Courtice.

On Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at approximately 11:30 a.m., an employee of Dom’s Auto Parts on Baseline Road West in Courtice Ontario was driving on a private laneway on the north side of the business when he approached some rail lines.

He stopped and waited for an eastbound train to pass by. He then proceeded to cross over the rail lines when he saw a westbound CP freight train traveling approximately 65 kilometers per hour.

The train struck the front end of his pickup truck. The truck was pushed off to the side as the train continued before stopping a short distance away. The male received only minor injuries, but the pickup truck received substantial damage to the front end.

Durham EMS arrived on scene with other emergency services and the male was cleared medically. No charges were laid and there was no reported damage to the train. CP Rail officials were called in to conduct their own investigation.
