A 20-year-old Oshawa man is facing arson charges in connection with a $200,000 house fire in Oshawa earlier this month.

On Wednesday, November 3, 2010 just before 3 a.m., emergency services were called to a working fire at a residence on Brock Street East in Oshawa. The Oshawa Fire Department doused the flames and there were no reported injuries. Further investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshall determined the fire was intentionally set.

On November 17, 2010 investigators with the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Bureau arrested the lone suspect, a former tenant of the residence that burned.

Michael MARKOFF, age 20, of Attersley Drive in Oshawa is charged with Arson; Mischief Endangering Life; Theft Under $5,000; Possession of Stolen Property; Possess Weapon Contrary to Order.

He was held for a bail hearing.
